Ozon Global is opening an office in China and plans to attract at least 100,000 local sellers to the world's leading e-commerce market to deliver more popular products from China to Russian customers
The new office will be led by Simon Huang, who has 10 years of cross-border trade and e-commerce experience in the US, India and China. Simon Huang and his team will be responsible for removing barriers to local sellers entering the Russian market and ensuring that goods from all regions around China are delivered quickly and conveniently.
China is an important region for Ozon Global, a division of Ozon for ordering goods from abroad. About 90% of the Ozon Global product range comes from Chinese sellers, whose numbers exceed 10,000. Turnover in the region is growing rapidly; based on the results of the third quarter of 2022, this figure is four times higher than in the same period of the previous year.
The new Ozon Global office will help Chinese entrepreneurs to increase their volumes of cross-border trade with Russia and expand the product range for buyers on the marketplace.
Chinese products are in high demand in Russia due to their variety and attractive prices, and currently account for about 95% Ozon Global’s total orders. The most popular orders from China are usually electronics - smartphones, laptops and computer parts - as well as small appliances and clothing. There is high demand for Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Neatsvor, Huawei, Honor, MSI, and ASUS.
“China is the undisputed leader in e-commerce. Only in the first half of 2022, the Chinese cross-border e-commerce market reached $1 trillion,” comments Simon Huang. “Developing our business in the region will allow us to significantly increase our pool of sellers and expand our product range. Our priority is to remove the barriers for Chinese sellers to enter the Russian marketplace and provide sellers with a high-quality service to grow their business. I hope that my experience in cross-border trade in various countries will enable us to raise Ozon’s business in the region to a new level and become one of the main suppliers of goods from China to Russia.”
Ozon Global has already introduced a Partner Delivery service from China that has cut delivery times from overseas by nearly half. The new shipping format allows Chinese sellers to deliver their goods from almost any province in China, and customers in Russia to pick up their orders faster at one of more than 23,000 pick-up points across the country.
