In 2022, sales by merchants increased nearly 2.2x, and order frequency rose by 50%; in Q4 the Company again showed positive EBITDA.
For the full year 2022, gross merchandise value (GMV) including services increased by 86% year-on-year to RUB 832.2 billion, exceeding the Company’s own guidance. Important drivers were a nearly 2.2x increase in sales by merchants and a more than twofold increase in the number of orders, to 465 million.
As of the end of 2022, the number of active buyers had reached 35.2 million, nearly 10 million more than at the end of 2021. Order frequency, the most important metric for e-commerce, increased by 52%, to 13.2 orders per customer per year, meaning that Ozon customers place on average more than one order per month on the site. In addition, Ozon expanded its base of active sellers considerably in 2022 to over 230,000, an increase of more than 2.5x year-on-year.
The Company’s warehouse footprint expanded by a third to 1.4 million square meters, and the number of branded pickup points exceeded 24,500 as of the end of the year.
Revenue in 2022 grew by 55% year-on-year to RUB 277 billion. One of the major factors driving this increase was service revenue, which rose by 2.5x thanks to an increase in the number of orders and deliveries of sellers’ products. In addition, advertising revenues rose threefold in response to an increase in the number of sellers on the site as well as an influx of advertising investments in the marketplace amid a reduction in advertising platforms in the Russian Federation in 2022.
Adjusted EBITDA remained positive in Q4 2022—for the third consecutive quarter—amounting to RUB 3.9 billion. The Company achieved this result thanks to consistent cost-saving measures, a reduction in expenses for fulfillment operations and delivery as a result of economies of scale, as well as improved efficiency of marketing costs. Adjusted EBITDA as a percentage of GMV improved by 10.3 p.p. year-on-year to 1.3%.
Net cash, cash equivalents and short-term bank deposits amounted to RUB 90.5 billion (USD 1.3 billion [1]) as of December 31, 2022.
Ozon’s GMV in Q4 increased by 67% year-on-year to RUB 296 billion. Turnover from sales of sellers’ merchandise grew at a much faster rate, increasing by 90% in Q4. Revenue in Q4 increased by 41% year-on-year to RUB 93.6 billion.

The loss for Q4 was RUB 11.2 billion, a 46% decrease year-on-year. The loss for FY 2022 amounted to RUB 58.2 billion, nearly a fifth of which, RUB 10.2 billion, was a one-off expense for the recognition of losses due to a fire in August 2022. The loss was primarily due to ongoing investments in logistics infrastructure in regional markets and in products for sellers and buyers.
